Presumptuous Sin

"Also keep back your servant from presumptuous (deliberate, willful sins; Let them not rule and have control over me. Then I will be blameless (complete) and I shall be acquitted of great transgression." - Psalms 19:13 (Amplified)

What is Presumptuous Sins?

The Amplified Bible includes words like deliberate & willful which really help us understand the meaning of the word presumptuous. When I apply this context to my life, I believe I have been guilty of presumptuous sin when I have smoked a cigar when I know my body is no longer mine, and God has asked us to choose life over death. I knew defiling my body with tobacco smoke is not what God wants for me, for we are fearfully and wonderfully made, yet I succumbed to my desires and did it anyway. To me this is an example of presumptuous sins. Do you have an example you can share with us? And most importantly; have you repented?

This scripture says to me:

That it is the Lord who gives us the power to over come sin. It points me back to Romans, when Paul says in Romans 7:15 (Amp) "For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled and bewildered by them]. And this is a man that had seen the Glory of the Lord, and heard is actual voice. And yet, he struggled with the flesh, desire, & sin.

Therefore:

We must pray, and give it over to Him that set us free! It is Jesus who gives us the power and freedom from sin, and it is He that died on the cross in order to free us from sin and its consequence.

For it is Romans 3:21-24 that reads, But now the righteousness of God has been clearly revealed [independently and completely] apart from the Law, though it is [actually] confirmed by the Law and the [words and writings of the] Prophets.

The Righteousness of God

This righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ for all those [Jew or Gentile] who believe [and trust in Him and acknowledge Him as God's Son]. There is no distinction, since all have sinned and continually fall short of the glory of God, and are being justified [declared free of the guilt of sin, made acceptable to God, and granted eternal life] as a gift by His [precious, undeserved] grace, through the redemption 'the payment for our sin' which is 'provided' in Christ Jesus".

Believe

It is up to us to believe in the power of God and the freedom God has provided through His Son. If we believe and acknowledge the Savior, especially when we are faced with the temptation, we are destined to succeed, and fulfill God's command, purpose and plan for our life. For "we love Him, because He first loved us". (1st John 4:19). And if we do fall and fail to overcome the temptation we must "confess our sins, for he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". (1st John 1:9)

Life in the Spirit

For Romans 8:1 reads "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus". The Book of Romans shines a light on what it is to live this new life in Christ. And Chapter 8 really provides the structure of life in the Spirit. As the beginning of the verse offers no condemnation to those who are in Christ, the end of the chapter offers faithful assurance of Gods love: "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord" Romans 8:38-39.
