Psalms 91:4-5

Protection

"He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day," (ESV) The King James Version says "He shall cover thee with His feathers", and "His truth shall be thy shield and buckler". But we get the point, there is rest, protection, provision and defense under the wings of the Lord.

Refuge

Sometimes all we need is refuge from the world. The dictionary tells us the word refuge means: a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble. Am I the only one that feels a sense of urgency when they wake up? What is that? I believe it is a mixture of conditioning & culture. We have all been conditions to consume and contribute to a broken world. And though we want to contribute in a positive way, sometimes we are victims of our own circumstance. The Lord understands the broken world we are all living in. Which is why Paul wrote in Romans, be in this world but not of this world. "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind," Romans 12:2.

Wealth & Success

I used to wake up always feeling like I was behind everyone else. That everyone else knew some secret that I had yet to find out. Some secret knowledge to wealth and success that was being held from me for some reason. And now I've come to realize that same thing I felt I was being held away from was God's refuge. How many of you know that God sometimes must protect us from ourselves? If I had all of the funds and financial resources that I wanted, I would have been further off the course the Lord has purposed for me, and I wouldn't be at His alter every morning, praying and thanking Him for my life and all that is in it.

The Children of Israel

Just like in Exodus 16 when the Lord began feeding the children of Israel with Manna from the sky He commanded them to only take a portion for that day. When the people would take more than their due portion the next day the manna would be eaten by worms and it would stink. I believe the Lord has some of us on this kinda of daily portion diet to continue to test & discipline us. So that we would not stray from the faith and from His refuge like the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. The Lord wants to keep us wanting Him, believing and trusting Him, and needing Him.

Shield & Buckler

During these times the shield and buckler was the ultimate defense mechanism. So when the author mentions it he's referring to God being His ultimate protection and protector. God is that for you. In Isaiah 54:17 it reads "No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord" (KJV). Therefore our protection is our inheritance, because of His grace, through our faith. Ephesians 2:8-9.

You will not Fear

"You will not fear the terror by night; nor the arrow that flieth by day". If that is the case then we should all be walking around smiling just a bit more knowing that we have nothing to fear. And if we do fear (as we all do) we must dig into that fear and ask ourselves what we are afraid of. Whatever that answer becomes for you, Jesus has an answer. "I have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." John 16:33.
